I’m Hildi Gabel, a junior at Amherst College, and I’ll be studying abroad with DIS Copenhagen for the spring semester of 2020. It’s telling that I decided to leave my beloved cold and dreary Massachusetts spring for a cold and dreary European city even further up North: I appreciate a deep winter, a hot beverage, and good company. After originally planning to study English, I switched to a biology major and hope to one day find work that will merge the two. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and have been mourning the loss of $8 pizza pies ever since moving in 2017.
In Copenhagen, I’ll be living in a Kollegium about 1.5 miles from the city center. I’m extremely excited to visit Tromsø, Norway, with my core class, Polar Biology. I hope to do a bit of solo travelling as well (my eyes are set on Prague) and settle into the rhythm of truly living in Denmark. Challenges ahead will include balancing frugality with fun and navigating a nut allergy in a country where I do not speak the language. I’m a bit of a walking disaster, but I tend document it with incredible precision and earnestness. Enjoy my journey if you wish!
